Two Dozen Travel Series promotional Ideas That Work!
(continued)
- Sell raffle tickets: Maybe a travel agency would donate a trip to raffle off, or offer a discount.
- Just ask: Ask the organizations which are supported by your profits to help sell tickets. Better yet, let them supply the people to work the Travelogue events. (This puts less responsibility on your shoulders.)
- Have a dinner for all your members and their spouses before the first or last show: Invite the scheduled speaker so everyone can talk to him/her. This gives members who haven’t been involved with the series a chance to learn more about it.
- Form committees and split the work: Create one for advertising, one for ticket sales, etc. Everyone should be involved to have a successful series.
- Encourage local businesses to buy tickets to give to their customers.
- Have fun with the series: Dress up in native garb for the shows, like flowered shirts and leis for tropical films. If the audience knows you’re having fun, it makes the Travel/ Adventure Series more pleasurable for them.
- Have radio interviews.
- Sell gift certificates: Promote them for birthdays, Christmas, Valentines Day, etc.
- Give season patrons 1 or 2 free tickets for bringing one or more guests for the last show: Then get their names and addresses to sell them tickets for the next season
- Give season tickets out through the Welcome Wagon program.
- Get ethnic groups to perform dances during intermission.
- Have a door prize drawing for home-schooled children.
- Advertise in “50-plus” magazines.
- Advertise a “2-for-1” for first-time ticket holders.
- Put all past and present ticket buyers on a computer database: In the spring, begin your sales effort by mailing season info with tickets.
- Give comp tickets: Calculate number of empty seats in auditorium, print 3 times that number of complimentary tickets and give to travel-related agencies to hand out. Print space for names and address information. Put comp ticket holders on the database when they use the ticket, for next season’s ticket sales.
